United Church of God - Cincinnati East, Ohio

Background:

The United Church of God has congregations all over the United States.  Each site had a different look and feel depending on who created the site.  The idea was to give each site a unified look and feel while giving some central content that is featured on each site.  The solution was a Drupal multisite install where the theme remains the same as the other sites but the database changes depending on subdomains.  Each city is subdomained under the main domain: http://www.ucg.org

Challenges:

Over 200 sites will be implemented when the project is completed.  The challenges all stemmed from a huge amount of data.  Dataload was used to load a lot of the data but some was done manually.  Server load was handled by data caching and using Drupal's built in gzip feature.  Users can blog to many sites at one time using the Drupal Blog API and using Blogdesk as the desktop software.
